eBay remains the default marketplace for shipped resale, with buyers searching for specific items, parts and collectibles. Final value fees apply on each sale, and eBay collects marketplace sales tax for you in the US. Its sold-listings data and Terapeak make pricing easier than anywhere else.
Facebook Marketplace is the largest local resale marketplace in the US. Local pickup sales are fee-free, making it the best channel for furniture and bulky goods. It is also a top source for underpriced inventory.
Every marketplace has a different buyer, fee structure and category strength. Furniture sells locally, sneakers go to authentication platforms, vintage clothing to Depop and Poshmark, and almost everything sells on eBay. Most full-time resellers list on 3 to 5 platforms and use a crosslister to keep inventory in sync. Fees change often, so always verify the current fee page before pricing. The deciding factors usually come down to each tool's standout strength (for eBay: largest shipped resale audience; for Facebook Marketplace: free for local sales) weighed against its main drawback (13.6% + $0.40 in most categories, more with promoted listings versus no-shows and lowballers).
